Old Armenian
Etymology
The origin is uncertain.[1] Some of the compounds and the genitive plural յոռից (yoṙicʻ) point to a root *յոռ (*yoṙ), which would make -ի (-i) a suffix.[1] Perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *h₁en-h₁or(H)s-yo- or the like and cognate with Old Armenian հեռ (heṙ, “discord, strife”), Sanskrit ईर्ष्या (īrṣyā́, “envy”), Lithuanian aršùs (“vehement; passionate; extravagant; fanatical; bad; ill; evil; vicious”).[2][3][4]
