Due to its semantic constraints, حَامِل (ḥāmil, “pregnant”) is virtually always encountered in the feminine. As with some other gender-specific words, like حائِض (ḥāʔiḍ, “menstruating”), the feminine ending is usually omitted. (The form حامِلة (ḥāmila) is a rarer variant, whence Persian (hâmele) and its descendants.)
When used as a participle of حَمَلَ (ḥamala), حَامِل (ḥāmil, “carrying”) behaves like a normal participle.
