Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *neh₃dʰ-, related to आध्र (ādhra, “poor, destitute”) and perhaps Ancient Greek νωθρός (nōthrós, “sluggish, slothful”). Influenced नाथ् (nāth), but not etymologically related to it, contrary to Monier-Williams and Whitney.
