Etymology

Uncertain. Probably from Proto-Georgian-Zan *xwaʒ₁-, note however that *ხოჯ- (*xoǯ-) is expected.[1][2] Cognate with Laz ხაჯი (xaci), ხაჯივაკა (xacivaǩa, bean), and possibly dialectal Georgian ხვანძა (xvanʒa, vetch).
