     英(えい)国(こく)の逆(ぎゃく)転(てん)は極(きわ)めて難(むずか)しい状(じょう)況(きょう)だった。ギブアップが認(みと)められており、相(あい)手(て)を尊(そん)重(ちょう)するフェアプレー精(せい)神(しん)にのっとって英(えい)国(こく)が「コンシード（降(こう)参(さん)）」を宣(せん)言(げん)した。

     Eikoku no gyakuten wa kiwamete muzukashī jōkyō datta. Gibu appu ga mitomerarete-ori, aite o sonchō suru fea purē seishin ni nottotte Eikoku ga “konshīdo (kōsan)” o sengen shita.

     It would have been exceedingly difficult for the British to come from behind. When they came to appreciate the loss, out of respect and a sense of fair play to their opponents the British team declared, “concede (defeat)”.

     「何(なん)回(かい)も何(なん)回(かい)も諦(あきら)めよう、ギブアップしたいと思(おも)った。だけど、リンクから家(いえ)に帰(かえ)り、娘(むすめ)が笑(わら)ってくれていたりすると、『結(けっ)果(か)がどうであれ、諦(あきら)めないということはすごく大(たい)切(せつ)なことだ』ということを伝(つた)えたいと思(おも)うようになった」と振(ふ)り返(かえ)る。

     “Nankai mo nankai mo akirameyō, gibu appu shitai to omotta. Dakedo, rinku kara ie ni kaeri, musume ga waratte kureteitari suru to,“kekka ga dō deare, akiramenai to iu koto wa sugoku taisetsu na koto da” to iu koto o tsutaetai to omō yō ni natta” to furi kaeru.

     “Again and again I wanted to resign, to give up. But when I would leave the rink and go home, my daughter would smile at me, so I wanted to convey the message, ‘No matter the result, it is very important never to quit,’” she reflected.
