Etymology
First attested in the Eoje naehun, (御製內訓 / 어제내훈), 1475 , as Middle Korean 바고니〮 (Yale: pàkwòní). The first element is probably related to Japanese 箱 (hako), from Old Japanese pako; the final -니 element appears to be some kind of suffix related to bags or containers, also appearing in 가마니 (gamani, “sack made of straw”).
