Alternatively, from earlier *hezra-, with loss of -z- before -r- and compensatory lengthening of the vowel, from Pre-Germanic *kesróm (that which is combed), substantivization of an adjective *kesros, derived from Proto-Indo-European *kes- (to comb, scrape).
