From *orz- +‎ *oriti. Cognate with Lithuanian ardýti (“to pull down, to destroy”), Latvian ā̀rdît (“to destroy, to scatter”). Trubachev notes a possible connection to Hittite (ḫarra-, “to break, to destroy, to grind”). See *oriti for further cognates.
