Examples

The template takes only one parameter: the ISBN of a work. It is suggested that you provide a 13-digit hyphenated form of an ISBN. To convert a 10-digit ISBN into a 13-digit one, or an unhyphenated ISBN into a hyphenated one, use the ISBN Converter provided by the Library of Congress.

Technical information

The purpose of the template is to switch from "magic link" syntax to more explicit syntax.

This template uses Module:check isxn to validate the ISBN. If the ISBN is not valid, a link will still be generated, but an error message will be displayed and the page on which the template is used will be added to Category:Pages with ISBN errors.
