This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from George Chapman's work The Conspiracie, and Tragedie of Charles Duke of Byron, Marshall of France (1st edition, 1608), which consists of two plays. It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.
The template takes the following parameters:
|chapter=
– if quoting from the dedication to Thomas Walsingham and his son, also named Thomas, or the prologus, specify |chapter=Dedication
or |chapter=Prologus
.|1=
or |page=
– mandatory: as the work is not paginated, use this parameter to specify the "page number" assigned by the Internet Archive ("IA") to the URL of the webpage to be linked to. For example, if the URL is https://archive.org/details/conspiracietrage00chap/page/n10/mode/1up
, specify |page=10
. This parameter must be specified to have the template determine the play and the act quoted from, and to link to the online version of the work.|act=
– mandatory in some cases: in most cases if the page is specified, the template will determine the act quoted from. It is unable to do so if page 22, 34, 49, 55, 96, or 109 is specified, in which the act number must be specified using this parameter, like this: |act=I
.Byrons Conspiracie | ||||
Act I IA pages 10–22 |
Act II IA pages 22–34 |
Act III IA pages 34–49 |
Act IV IA pages 49–55 |
Act V IA pages 55–67 |
The Tragedie of Charles Duke of Byron | |||
Act I IA pages 70–83 |
Act III IA pages 84–96 (Act II is not indicated) |
Act IV IA pages 96–109 |
Act V IA pages 109–135 |
|sig=
or |signature=
, and |verso=
– |sig=
or |signature=
can be used to specify the signature number quoted from, which is indicated at the bottom centre of some pages. If quoting from a verso (left-hand) page specify |verso=1
or |verso=yes
; if |verso=
is omitted, the template indicates that a recto (right-hand) page is quoted.
[
and ]
For example, if the previous signature number is A3 and the next one is B, specify the missing signature number as |sig=[A4]
: see the example below.|sig=
or |signature=
, and |verso=
, to specify the signature at the start of the range, and |sigend=
or |signatureend=
, and |versoend=
, (if required) to specify the signature at the end of the range.|2=
, |text=
, or |passage=
– the passage to be quoted.|3=
, |t=
, or |translation=
– a translation of the passage into contemporary English.|footer=
– a comment on the passage quoted.|brackets=
– use |brackets=on
to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.{{RQ:Chapman Charles|sig=B|page=10|passage=ll Ambaſſadours / (You knovv) haue chiefly theſe inſtructions; / {{...}} / o obſerue the countenances and ſpirites, / Of ſuch as are impatient of reſt; / And '''vvring''' beneath, ſome priuate diſcontent: {{...}}}}
