This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from John Dryden and William Davenant's work The Tempest, or The Enchanted Island. A Comedy. (1st edition, 1670), which was based on William Shakespeare's work The Tempest (written c. 1610–1611; published 1623). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.
The template takes the following parameters:
|chapter=
– if quoting from one of the chapters indicated in the second column of the following table, give this parameter the value indicated in the first column:Parameter value | Result |
---|---|
Epilogue | Epilogue |
Preface | Preface to the Enchanted Island (by Dryden; written 1 December 1669 ) |
Prologue | Prologue to the Tempest, or the Enchanted Island |
|1=
or |page=
to specify the "page number" assigned by the Internet Archive to the URL of the webpage to be linked to. For example, if the URL is https://archive.org/details/tempestorenchant00dryd/page/n6/mode/1up
, specify |page=6
. (The prologue and epilogue are also unpaginated, but the template can determine the URL.)|1=
or |page=
, or |pages=
– mandatory: the page number(s) quoted from. If quoting a range of pages, note the following:
|pages=10–11
.|pageref=
to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).|act=
– mandatory in some cases: in most cases, if the page number is specified the template will determine the act number quoted from. However, it is unable to do so if page 14, 51, or 71 is specified, in which case this parameter must be used to specify the act number in uppercase Roman numerals, like this: |act=I
.Act I pages 1–14 |
Act II pages 14–30 |
Act III pages 31–51 |
Act IV pages 51–71 |
Act V pages 71–82 |
|2=
, |text=
, or |passage=
– the passage to be quoted.|footer=
– a comment on the passage quoted.|brackets=
– use |brackets=on
to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.{{RQ:Dryden Davenant Tempest|page=66|passage=O thou cruel Son of an / Inhumane Father! all my deſigns are ruin'd / And '''unravell'd''' by this blovv. / No pleaſure novv is left in me but Revenge.}}
(the template is able to determine the act number quoted from based on the page number specified); or{{RQ:Dryden Davenant Tempest|66|O thou cruel Son of an / Inhumane Father! all my deſigns are ruin'd / And '''unravell'd''' by this blovv. / No pleaſure novv is left in me but Revenge.}}
