Welcome!

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy documenting how Wiktionary pages should be formatted. All entries should conform to this standard. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing page for a similar word, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Our Criteria for inclusion (CFI) define exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary, though it may be a bit technical and longwinded. The most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • The FAQ aims to answer most of your remaining questions, and there are several help pages that you can browse for more information.
  • A glossary of our technical jargon, and some hints for dealing with the more common communication issues.
  • If you have anything to ask about or suggest, we have several discussion rooms. Feel free to ask any other editors in person if you have any problems or question, by posting a message on their talk page.

You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage. This shows which languages you know, so other editors know which languages you'll be working on, and what they can ask you for help with.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wiktionarian! If you have any questions, bring them to the Wiktionary:Information desk, or ask me on my talk page. If you do so, please sign your posts with four tildes: ~~~~ which automatically produces your username and the current date and time.

Again, welcome! - TheDaveRoss 14:56, 6 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

postkontor

Hi Christoffre! Please revise your edits at postkontor - we don't create entries like that. For reference, compare bureau de poste or other translations with Wiktionary entries at post office. --Robbie SWE (talk) 07:53, 1 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Jag tror jag förstår vad du menar. Men...

--Robbie SWE (talk) 13:59, 4 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Brand names

Hi, Wiktionary does have some entries for brand names, e.g. Coca Cola, I think the applicable policy is WT:BRAND General Vicinity (talk) 08:18, 4 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

som Fan läser Biblen

Since you moved the page I'm guessing this spelling is invalid and does not merit and alt. form entry, right? If so, you should mark it with {{d}} so that an admin should see it and delete it. Acolyte of Ice (talk) 08:31, 6 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Yes,it was a spelling mistake. Thanks I'm on it immediately.
Also... I am (positively) surprised with the speed you removed my translation template 😅 --Christoffre (talk) 08:38, 6 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
Lol :) I tend to lurk around RecentChanges at least a little most days. Acolyte of Ice (talk) 08:39, 6 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hjärtersnopp

Looks like it's "hjärtesnopp" and not "hjärtersnopp." Nice word btw. 👌 -80.245.232.43 21:48, 23 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Ops! Thanks 👍 —Christoffre (talk) 21:54, 23 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Swedish terms spelled with X

Hi - you don't need to manually add these categories anymore, as it now works automatically for Swedish. Theknightwho (talk) 18:37, 12 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

You gave me a shock when I checked the Watchlist and saw that an Administrator had performed a mass deletion on me. Thank you for automating the process. And especially thank you for reverting all the templates. I can see how many hours that took. --Christoffre (talk) 07:23, 13 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Christoffre No problem. It might not be totally necessary to remove them, but if we ever decide to change the category names (or whatever) then it makes life easier if we only need to change things in one place. Theknightwho (talk) 11:36, 13 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Swedish noun forms

If you don't know about it already, you may be interested in WT:ACCEL to save yourself some time in creating these entries. It seems some noun declension templates don't support it yet but I did post about that in the Grease Pit. Acolyte of Ice (talk) 11:01, 31 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I activated it years ago. But it has never generated any templates for me; neither on mobile (my main platform) nor on PC, both of which run Chrome. I have always assumed it just didn't support Swedish. --Christoffre (talk) 11:11, 31 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Really? Huh, that's weird... Acolyte of Ice (talk) 11:14, 31 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I have a recently made article, fotbeklädnadspersedel, that is still without declensions if you want to check yourself. Who knows, it might just be my setup that is the problem. --Christoffre (talk) 11:23, 31 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I don't doubt you but I know I'm not crazy, I have seen some new Swedish entries like today and/or yesterday where green ACCEL links were showing up in the table, but some other entries did not have green links. I'm pretty sure earlier, before the entries were created, the entry for LAN did have green links. Acolyte of Ice (talk) 12:23, 31 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
