Welcome Message
Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.
If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:
- Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
- Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
- Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
- If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
- If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
- Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (

) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
- You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

It is not operational yet and produces wrong results. — Fytcha〈 T | L | C 〉 01:30, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
- Thanks Fytcha. I have looked through my entries and you have caught them all. When I add more entries in future I will omit the pronunciation section entirely (unless I can find a reliable method/source to add the pronunciations manually as others have done). Thanks again for your time. DaveyLiverpool (talk) 10:12, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
- You could look up the Romanian edition of Wiktionary to look for the IPA, which I clean up whenever I could. --Apisite (talk) 10:14, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Apisite. I will do that. DaveyLiverpool (talk) 10:18, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi - please don't make changes like this one. It's pointless, and actually breaks the headword line because it uses a different syntax. Can you please revert any others like this? Theknightwho (talk) 12:23, 18 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yes, of course. I don't even recall tinkering with the Russian section back there, but I will be sure to revert any others I find. Hopefully there are few such examples. Thanks for pointing it out.DaveyLiverpool (talk) 12:55, 18 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
- Thanks! It's the same with Ukrainian, really - the acceleration module sorts it out (I know Russian and Ukrainian both have their own settings). If you think something's genuinely wrong, 99% of the time it'll mean some parameter will needs to be changed in the declension template on the lemma page, and if that doesn't work, it suggests there's a mistake in the declension module itself (which should be brought up at the Beer Parlour). Chances are you won't come across that unless you're adding some weird loanword.
- Thanks for your work on these - I know that Wiktionary can be a bit of a steep learning curve with all the rigidity. Theknightwho (talk) 13:04, 18 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
