• Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.

• Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.

Thanks for adding/expanding these. I don't know if you're confident editing etymologies, but a lot of the entries you're working on are pretty straightforward cases. Something like sidneyés couldn't be inherited from Latin, and it's not borrowed from English, so it must be suffixed. Just a suggestion. Either way, keep up the good work. Hi. I think your understanding of "stock characters" is a bit too broad; some of them are just everyday agent nouns, like "granny-sitter" and "gadgeteer". Are entries like this actually attested? Our usual standard for New Latin is to require three independent, durably archived uses for attestation. These terms really look like they were made up by the famously neologism-friendly editors over at Vicipaedia, and I have serious doubts about whether they belong at Wiktionary. —Μετάknowledge^{discuss/deeds} 04:54, 7 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

I could stop. No worries! I actually used to use modern New Latin translations of these concepts for fun in my Latin high school course I taught just to help give my students the idea that Latin while dead could still be used to communicate if one wanted to. (I used to teach both Latin and Spanish... before my life-changing back accident. certified to teach German too once but could never find work to teach it). Anyway, I figured the people over at Vicipedia must have had discussions on their own on what neologisms were verified or not and approved them. And since the sites of Wikipedia and Wiktionary are under the same umbrella, I thought that they must have been verified in outside settings for them to be on that site and not be deleted over there. I just figured no one had the time to add them to Wiktionary, and since I have time, I have been trying to help out. If you guys are against New Latin being added unless it's historically been used (e.g., names of countries, etc.), no problem. I will no longer assume that just because it's over at Vicipedia, that it's kosher for here. My colleagues from grad school and I used to always talk in New Latin for fun, but I understand that Wiktionary might not be the place for the propagation thereof. — This unsigned comment was added by Friendly2Face (talk • contribs).

Ah, there are no real content standards that extend over multiple wikis. At Vicipaedia, they need to document concepts, and if the concept lacks a Latin name, they feel compelled to make up a suitable word. We need to document words, and we accept that some concepts lack words to describe them; if a word was just made up, we can't accept it as part of the dictionary. I understand the urge when teaching Latin (I've never taught it in a classroom setting, but I've tutored high school Latin students), but we aim to reflect actual published usage in Latin. Sure, something has come up family-related today actually. But I will send it to you in the next couple days though at the absolute latest. For countries and state names, I own this book actually by the late John Traupman. https://www.amazon.com/Conversational-Latin-Oral-Proficiency-Traupman/dp/0865166226 --- Yeah, since basically Vicipedia had all the state and (most) country names mentioned in this book, I figured, "Oh, they must have sources for everything then since these are right," which clearly is not the case now that you've brought it to my attention. I'll go look for the non-geographical things that I transferred from Vicipedia to here as soon as I get time to be thorough.

Okay, here are the ones: sublatio libramentorum, sublatio super scamnum, sublatio a terra, cithara electrica, follis aerius.... Yeah, I'll just stick to the book. Back in grad school, I knew someone who was acquainted with him. Anyway, mostly just locations were the ones missing on here that I think matter. The other stuff isn't that important. Sorry for assuming Vicipedia community did their homework. I should have known better. I promise you though I really do mean well. When I contribute here, it's my way of still trying to be service since I haven't been able to teach Latin or Spanish the past year and a half. I also occasionally try to help with the German since I lived in Austria for a bit and was certified to teach that also in the States at a high school level. But I really do mean well.
