Welcome!
Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contribution so far. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- How to edit a page is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
- Entry layout explained (ELE) is a detailed policy documenting how Wiktionary pages should be formatted. All entries should conform to this standard, the easiest way to do this is to copy exactly an existing page for a similar word.
- Our Criteria for inclusion (CFI) define exactly which words Wiktionary is interested in including. There is also a list of things that Wiktionary is not for a higher level overview.
- The FAQ aims to answer most of your remaining questions, and there are several help pages that you can browse for more information.
- We have discussion rooms in which you can ask any question about Wiktionary or its entries, a glossary of our technical jargon, and some hints for dealing with the more common communication issues.
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wiktionarian! If you have any questions, bring them to the Wiktionary:Information desk, or ask me on my talk page. If you do so, please sign your posts with four tildes: ~~~~ which automatically produces your username and the current date and time.

Greetings, are you the same person as User:Sgconlaw? --Dan Polansky (talk) 08:58, 25 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
You have sent me an email. That I find uncomfortable; I do not feel allowed to post the content of the email, so now I have a knowledge of something that I do not feel entitled to divulge. In that email, I did not see anything that would need to be private, requiring secrecy. Please, consider posting the email on this talk page. --Dan Polansky (talk) 09:58, 25 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
- Yes. I used to use “Sgconlaw” for university projects with students when I worked in higher education but that has sort of become my default account. Why do you ask? — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 10:06, 25 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
- One reason is that I might like to propose, as a gentle hint, to switch from Sgconlaw to Jacklee. Since, the latter is your name, whereas Sgconlaw as a name identifies an organization of which you are probably not a representative or functionary. --Dan Polansky (talk) 10:29, 25 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
- Actually “Sgconlaw” isn’t the name of any organization. It simply means “Singapore constitutional law”, a subject that I continue to be interested in. Thus, I don’t think it’s necessary to stop using it. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 10:18, 26 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

- Thanks, I've fixed it. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 22:09, 30 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
- Thanks! I forgot to escape the ampersands of
–
, so as a result the character (–
) appeared in my markup, and you copied that into your signature, which is totally OK, but I thought I would mention it in case you really want the ampersand code instead of the en dash character directly. Anomalocaris (talk) 08:11, 1 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
- No worries, using the en dash directly is fine with me. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 09:15, 1 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
