  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.

لوغیدن (luğidan)

Raxshaan, what is your source for Persian لوغیدن (luğidan) being derived from Bactrian? --{{victar|talk}} 19:41, 5 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello Victar, my source was a Persian article (that I added as a reference to the entry). That article itself lists some papers by Walter Bruno Henning and Paul Horn as sources. d -> l is a common Bactrian sound shift and there are some Bactrian words in Persian, like ملخ (malax, grasshopper) or مل (mol, wine). I also created an entry page for لوغیدن (luğidan). Have a nice day, Raxshaan (talk) 21:24, 5 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for adding the source, Raxshaan. Many Iranian languages exhibit this change, including Pashto, so I wouldn't say a Bactrian descent is a sure thing.
I couple other things I wanted to mention are that 1. for borrowing in descendants lists, please use {{desc|fa|لوغیدن|tr=luğidan|bor=1}}, and 2. unless the word is very obscure, adding a Dehkhoda cite is unnecessary. In this case, it may have been though, however, with the creation of an entry, it's certainly no longer needed. --{{victar|talk}} 22:06, 5 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Tbot entries

Hey. Thanks for your work in Persian. If you want something to do, and feel comfortable with it, can I ask you to look at Category:Tbot entries (Persian)? This is a category of lots of Persian entries made 10 years ago by a bot, and they haven't been checked since then so may contain many errors. There are only 10 entries remaining, so it should not take long to fix them! Thanks in advance. --Guiri Falso (talk) 14:44, 25 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

It's done, I checked all of them. Raxshaan (talk) 03:16, 26 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

درباره اتیمولوژی

سلام، دیدم شما در بخش اتیمولوژی به لغات همریشه آن واژه در فارسی ارجاع می دهید که به نظر من ضروری نیستند و کلمه را بی معنی می کنند. مئل گستردن که خاکستر و بستر در آنجا نابجا هستند. من با اجازه شما می روم آنها را پاک کنم.(هندیمان سالار (talk) 09:06, 29 March 2020 (UTC))Reply

майхона

Hi,

In diff you have removed the Tajik descendant without adding it anywhere. We treat the classical old Persian the same for etymological purposes, so that modern Persian, Dari and Tajik are descendants from it. Maybe it should be {{desc|tg|майхона}} without |bor=1?

@ZxxZxxZ: Hi. Could you please remind us how Tajik is handled for etymological purposes? I saw a discussion somewhere. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 06:04, 17 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello, from what I know Tajik is not considered a descendant of modern Persian. If you want to include Tajik you can put {{fa-regional|||}}. Raxshaan (talk) 12:41, 21 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your response. I had the same objections before but I was told that Tajik is derived from Middle or Old Persian(?), which we we use the same language code (fa) for but I can no longer find anything. @Vahagn Petrosyan: do you know anything about it? --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 21:55, 21 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Atitarev: Tajik descends from Classical Persian (code fa-cls), which we treat under Persian (code fa). Therefore, Tajik should be listed under the descendants of the Persian word, but without bor=on. There was a discussion about this, but I don't remember where. --Vahag (talk) 07:49, 22 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Vahagn Petrosyan: Thank you, Vahagn. Does that still need to be discussed, if this is right in your opinion? @Raxshaan, if you agree with this, I will add the Tajik as a descendent minus |bor=, otherwise, I'll open a discussion on WT:BP to clarify the policy how to treat Tajik (tg) in relation to Persian (fa) for etymological purposes. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 11:28, 22 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
yes I think Tajik can be added as a descendent now. --Raxshaan (talk) 13:16, 23 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

مثال صفحۀ دیدن

سلام. شما در مثال صفحۀ دیدن واژۀ "شگرف" را به "شگفت انگیز" دگرگون ساختید. خواستم بدانم دلیلش چه بود. آیا واژۀ "شگرف" برای واژۀ انگلیسی "واندِرفول" مناسب نیست؟ (توجه داشته باشید هر دو واژۀ "شگرف" و "شگفت انگیز" به یک معنا هستند.)

پلیته

Hi,

You have added پلیته (palite) as a synonym for مشعل (maš'al). I can't find the word in dictionaries. Can you confirm the word exists with this sense? --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 05:30, 13 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi, you’re right. I checked and this word doesn’t exist in standard Persian. Apparently only my dialect and a few other Persian dialects but not standard. So I will remove it. Raxshaan (talk) 21:01, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
