Moving "Coordinate terms" up in ELE

Current state:

  • Synonyms
  • Antonyms
  • Other allowable -nyms
  • Derived terms
  • Related terms
  • Coordinate terms
  • Descendants

Proposed state:

  • Synonyms
  • Antonyms
  • Other allowable -nyms
  • Coordinate terms
  • Derived terms
  • Related terms
  • Descendants

Rationale:

  • Keeping "synonyms", "antonyms", "other allowable -nyms" and "coordinate terms" all together, as sections of semantic relations
  • Keeping "derived terms", "related terms" and "descendants" all together, as sections of etymological relations.

Notes:

  • In a number of entries, the semantic relations are already separate from the etymological relations, even if this format contradicts ELE. Examples: axis, iron, quality, study, mother, penultimate. For contrast, in joke and diary, the order of headings from ELE is obeyed. The exact number of entries by whether the order of headings is obeyed remains unknown.
  • ELE seems to have a contradiction, as the headers are ordered as follows and "Coordinate terms" is listed inside WT:Semantic relations.
    3.3.4 Synonyms
    3.3.5 Further semantic relations
    3.3.6 Derived terms
    3.3.7 Related terms
  • This would entail a change to the order of headings established by a previous vote.

Oppose

Abstain

  1. Abstain I would prefer that the heading "Coordinate terms" be dropped entirely. It is hardly even used anywhere, and the purpose it serves is handled quite well by topical categories. -- Liliana 17:33, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
My search for "coordinate terms" in the main namespace (link) returned 2,919 results.
Moreover, the heading "See also" is often used to fulfill the purpose of "Coordinate terms", such as in joker. Therefore, there are entries that link to their coordinate terms together in a section but did not appear in the search above.
I do think that joker should link to ace, king, queen and jack directly. Merely replacing the direct links by one or more topical categories would be a bad idea, because they require the aditional effort of searching through the many category links at the bottom and clicking the right one; and, topical categories often are messy, inconsistent and untended. --Daniel 21:58, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
    =See also= ? Ƿidsiþ 07:42, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
  2. Abstain Ƿidsiþ 07:41, 21 May 2012 (UTC) as above.

Decision

Vote passes 9-0-1. I have modified ELE, but we will need a user with a bot to execute it in the entries. --Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 00:05, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
