Meanwhile, parsing 新自由主義 as 新 and 自由主義 yields its cognate and synonym chủ nghĩa tự do mới, which means literally, “new ideology of freedom; new liberalism”.

     Trong chủ nghĩa tự do cổ điển, thương nhân chỉ đơn giản yêu cầu nhà nước ‘để chúng tôi tự lo liệu lấy’ – laissez-nous faire. Song chủ nghĩa tân tự do thừa nhận rằng nhà nước cần phải chủ động trong việc tổ chức nền kinh tế thị trường. The conditions allowing for a free market must be won politically, and the state must be re-engineered to support the free market on an ongoing basis.
