Etymology 1

From Middle Dutch souderen, from Old French souder, from Latin solidō. The form solderen was originally Eastern Dutch and began to replace the form souderen starting in the late seventeenth century, which had apparently come to be regarded as substandard; this obsolete form existed until the early nineteenth century.[1]
