أَسْفَرَ • (ʔasfara) IV (non-past يُسْفِرُ (yusfiru), verbal noun إِسْفَار (ʔisfār))

1. (intransitive) to glow, to shine, to beam
2. to disclose, to reveal
   • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 74:32-34:

     كَلَّا وَٱلْقَمَرِ وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَآ أَسْفَرَ

     kallā wal-qamari wallayli ʔiḏ ʔadbara waṣ-ṣubḥi ʔiḏaʔā ʔasfara

     But no! By the moon, and the night as it retreats, and the day as it breaks!

3. to lead to, to result in

   أَسْفَرَتِ ٱلْحَرْبُ عَنْ مَقْتَلِ ٱلْعَدِيدِ مِنَ ٱلْأَطْفَالِ.

   ʔasfarati l-ḥarbu ʕan maqtali l-ʕadīdi mina l-ʔaṭfāli.

   The war led to numerous deaths of children.
