Etymology 1

This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.
Particularly: “Not given etymology by STEDT (khre "reduce to small particles"), and not mentioned by Luce 1981. MED lists သည်းခြေ (sany:hkre, gall, bile) under this sense, while STEDT derives the second syllable from Proto-Tibeto-Burman *m/s-kri(y)-s (gall(bladder), bile, sour), whence also Tibetan མཁྲིས (mkhris, bile). Could the "crush" verbal sense be a semantic extension of the "bile" sense, as bile could be thought of as a bodily fluid that "crushes" digestible matter into smaller pieces?”
