  1. genitive singular of лад (lad)

Etymology 2

Related to ладый (ladyj, dear), but of disputed origin. Possibly from Proto-Slavic *lada, from Proto-Indo-European *leh₂d- (to love; beloved, wife), if cognate with Tocharian B lāre (beloved, adjective) (< *leh₂d-ro-) and Lycian 𐊍𐊀𐊅𐊀 (lada, wife). Alternatively, simply a substantization of the root of лад (lad, harmony) and ладить (laditʹ, to be on good terms).
