Declension
Old Armenian
Etymology
Unknown.[1][2] Perhaps a Georgian-Zan borrowing: compare Georgian ურდ-უმ-ი (urd-um-i, “cowshed dung-hatch”), Svan ჰურდ-უმ (hurd-um, “chimney”) for which Fährnich reconstructs Proto-Kartvelian *urd-, unaware of the Armenian.[3] For other roof terminology borrowed from Kartvelian compare ձեղուն (jełun), ցխինք (cʻxinkʻ).
