Old Armenian

Etymology

Perhaps inherited from Proto-Indo-European *porḱos (fishing), with the only surviving cognate being Ancient Greek πόρκος (pórkos, fishing net); the sense of “fishing” must have become more generalized in Armenian.[1] It has been suggested that the dialectal form հորս (hors) still preserves the initial *p-.[2]
