Inherited from Middle Persian (dmytn' /⁠damīdan⁠/), regularized form of (dptn' /⁠daftan⁠/), from Proto-Iranian *damH- (“to breathe, to blow”), from Proto-Indo-European *dʰemH-.^[1] Cognate with Sanskrit धमति (dhamati, “to blow”), Lithuanian dumti (“to blow”).

دمیدن • (damidan) (present stem دم (dam))

1. (transitive) to breathe (into), to blow
2. (intransitive) to swell, to swell up
3. (intransitive) to appear, to dawn
4. (intransitive) to sprout, to grow, to shoot
