Identical to Arabic مَرْزَبَان (marzabān, “a dry measure for grain used in Aleppo”), Middle Armenian մարզպան (marzpan, “a measure for grain or liquid”). Presumably + -ܢܐ (-ānā) from ܡܪܙܒܐ* (marzəḇā), found as Jewish Babylonian Aramaic מַרְזְבָא (marzəḇā), מַרְזִיבָא (marzīḇā), Classical Syriac ܡܪܙܝܒܐ (marzīḇā), Arabic مِرْزَاب (mirzāb), meaning a spout or gutter, and accordingly a spout of grain.
