From *ǵʰey- (to drive) +‎ *-os. A Southern Indo-European word (found only in Armenian and Indo-Iranian), *ǵʰéyos represented a poetic word, belonging to the “language of gods”, as opposed to the usual unmarked *h₁éḱwos.
