Welcome

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! JamesjiaoTC

About Boundless Learning

Boundless Learning is building an open learning platform, focusing on helping students learn introductory higher education material more effectively. We work closely with various open educational communities, including Creative Commons, MIT OCW, Connexions, and others. Our work itself is also licensed as CC-BY-SA, so it is compatible with Wikipedia and Wiktionary content.

We extensively curate, improve, and create content to serve the needs of our students. We have a team of domain experts working around the world to help with that curation. These experts will occasionally work to augment the open resources we are working with, as a small part of their overall efforts. Our goal is to continue adding to the overall content commons. formating of entries

Hi, we thank you for your contributions. However, the quality of your entries is extremely low. Please refer to WT:ELE for basic formating instructions or imitate the style of an existing entry such as run book. I've deleted mismatch repair for this very reason. Once you've learnt how to format things properly, you can use WT:Sandbox to test things out before recreating this entry. JamesjiaoTC 00:13, 9 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

nucleotide excision repair

Just be careful not to capitalize the first letter of the entry when you are not supposed to. I have corrected the spelling of nucleotide for you (was Nucleotide). JamesjiaoTC 00:29, 9 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

I am deleting the entries where you haven't done this. Equinox 00:59, 9 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

A little tip

Here's a little tip for you: instead of putting (Genetics) in your definitions, put {{genetics|lang=en}}. This adds the page to Category:en:Genetics. Ungoliant MMDCCLXIV 00:25, 10 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Working to improve!!

Thank you to all of the editors providing feedback. New to this, but working hard to improve quality of previous and future entries.

By the way, sign your post as a sign of courtesy. The one with the picture of a writing instrument? Use that. --Lo Ximiendo 01:43, 10 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Ti plasmid

Hello again. You are not getting any better are you.

Here is what is wrong with Ti plasmid.

  • No headword - probably needs a form of {{en-noun}}
  • Definition starts on a line that does not start with a #
  • Definition is not much actual use to anyone.
  • Bacteria is plural, you probably meant bacterium.
  • Definitions do not start with "xxxx is a" - look in any dictionary for conformation.

I shall fix it this time, but just delete anything similar. SemperBlotto (talk) 07:36, 9 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
