Welcome

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.

accidental revert and IP kinship terms

Sorry about the revert, it was an accident and I have undone it.

In other news, i've been continuing work on Template:fa-family names/Iran, but I don't have enough information to fill out every square, so I was wonder you could check it out. — BABRtalk 21:07, 11 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Babr. It is good to see you are back from you break. The chart seems to be coming along well. I added one term for "brother" in the Kashani dialect to it. Do you plan on adding other regional dialects to the chart as well, such as Kermani and Mashhadi? Samiollah1357 (talk) 14:28, 12 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Samiollah1357 I will be adding more dialects but I would like to avoiding adding too many blank boxes, so I may end up skipping dialects that don't have enough information. — BABRtalk 19:32, 12 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
I see. By the way, @Babr, I have noticed that vajehyab.com has a selection of dialectal dictionaries that one can see listed by pressing the + button under the search box. To search them specifically one needs to buy a subscription to the website, but one can still access entries from them by searching terms generally. For example, searching نردبان makes it possible to find the entries under it in various dialectal dictionaries, including e.g. گویش اصفهانی. Maybe some of them could be of use to you. ahh, thank you! I will check these out when I have the time! — BABRtalk 05:20, 5 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
