ἀθάνατος

From ᾰ̓- (a-, “un-”) +‎ θᾰ́νᾰτος (thánatos, “dying”).

The first alpha is etymologically expected to be short, but it always scans long in poetry because poetic meter does not allow three light syllables in a row.
