διαβάζω

From Byzantine Greek διαβάζω (diabázō), simplification of Ancient Greek διαβιβάζω (diabibázō, “to transmit, to send on”). By surface analysis, δια- (“through”) +‎ βιβάζω (“cause to mount”), βιβάζω being the causative of βαίνω (baínō, “to go”). Cognate with Mariupol Greek дъавазу (ðavazu).

1. (transitive, intransitive) to read (look at and interpret letters or other information that is written)

   Μην τον ενοχλείς όταν διαβάζει.

2. (intransitive) to be able to read, be literate

3. (intransitive) to study (review materials already learned in order to make sure one does not forget them)
