ܣܓܝ

Learned borrowing from Classical Syriac, absolute state of ܣܓܝܐܐ (saggīʾā, “many”).

ܣܲܓܝܼ • (sagī)

1. too, quite, enough

   ܩܲܗܘܵܐ ܣܲܓܝܼ ܚܸܠܝܵܐ ܝܠܹܗ. ― qahwā sagī ḥilyā ìlēh. ― The coffee is too sweet.

2. very, a lot

   Synonyms: ܟܲܒܝܼܪܵܐ (kabīrā), ܪܵܒܵܐ (rābā)

   ܫܲܡܝܼܪܵܡ ܣܲܓܝܼ ܚܕ݂ܝܼܬ݂ܵܐ ܝܠܵܗ̇. ― šamīrām sagī ḥḏīṯā ìlāh. ― Shammiram is very happy.

The sense of “very” with an adjective may also be expressed through the repetition of the adjective twice, eg. ܫܲܡܝܼܪܵܡ ܚܕ݂ܝܼܬ݂ܵܐ ܚܕ݂ܝܼܬ݂ܵܐ ܝܠܵܗ̇ ― šamīrām ḥḏīṯā ḥḏīṯā ìlāh ― Shammiram is very happy (literally, “Shammiram is happy happy”).
