From Proto-Indo-Iranian *priHtás (“pleased, favoured”), from Proto-Indo-European *priH-tó-s, from *preyH- (“to please”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬟𐬭𐬌𐬙𐬀 (frita, “favoured”). Equivalent to प्री (prī) +‎ -त (-ta).

     putro na jāto raṇvo duroṇe vājī na prīto viśo vi tārīt.

     Born in the dwelling like a lovely son, pleased, like a strong steed, he (Agni) bears on the folk.
