Etymology 1

Uncertain. Possibly from Old Khmer sāhāva (reckless, wild, violent; cruel, mean, brutal).[1] Also believed to be from สาม (sǎam, three) +‎ หาว (hǎao, breath, air exhaled; instance of exhalation), literally three breaths, possibly referring to the behaviour of Hanuman, a monkey in the epic Rammakian who breathes moons and stars.[2]
