This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from John Evelyn's English translation of Jean-Baptiste de La Quintinie's work Instruction pour les jardins fruitiers et potagers, avec un Traité des orangers, suivi de quelques réflexions sur l'agriculture (1690), entitled The Compleat Gard'ner; or, Directions for Cultivating and Right Ordering of Fruit-gardens (1st edition, 1693). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.

The template takes the following parameters:

• |part= – mandatory in some cases: if quoting from one of the parts indicated in the second column of the following table, give the parameter the value indicated in the first column:

If this parameter is omitted, the template defaults to the main part of the work, "Of Fruit-gardens and Kitchen-gardens".

• |volume= – mandatory in some cases: if quoting from the main part of the work, specify the volume number quoted from in uppercase Roman numerals, either |volume=I or |volume=II.
• |1= or |chapter=, and/or |chaptername= –
  • If quoting from one of the chapters indicated in the second column of the following table, give |1= or |chapter= the value indicated in the first column:

As the chapters marked with an asterisk (*) are unpaginated, use |2= or |page= to specify the "page number" assigned by the Internet Archive to the URL of the webpage to be linked to. For example, if the URL is https://archive.org/details/bim_early-english-books-1641-1700_the-compleat-gardner-_la-quintinie-jean-de_1693/page/n6/mode/1up, specify |page=6. (The other chapters are also unpaginated but the template is able to determine the URL.)

• In other cases, use |1= or |chapter= to specify the chapter number quoted from in uppercase Roman numerals, and/or |chaptername= to specify the name of the chapter.

• |entry= – if quoting from "The Dictionary", the name of the entry quoted from.
• |2= or |page=, or |pages= – mandatory: the page number(s) quoted from. If quoting a range of pages, note the following:
  • Separate the first and last page number of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=10–11.
  • You must also use |pageref= to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).

This parameter must be specified to have the template determine, in some cases, the part of the work quoted from, and to link to the online version of the work.

• The page numbering starts from 1 in each part of the work, and in volume I and II of the main part of the work, "Of Fruit-gardens and Kitchen-gardens".
• In the main part, volume I, between pages 107 and 110, and 115 and 118, the alternate pages are unnumbered. Specify the unnumbered pages with an "A"; for example, specify the page after 107 as |page=107A.
• In the main part, volume II, between parts V and VI, page numbers 117–136 are not used; the text is unaffected.

• |column= or |columns= – if quoting from a part of the work divided into columns, the column number(s) quoted from, either |column=1 or |column=2. If quoting from both columns, either omit this parameter or separate the column numbers with an en dash, like this: |columns=1–2.
• |3=, |text=, or |passage= – the passage to be quoted.
• |footer= – a comment on the passage quoted.
• |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
