• Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.

• Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
• If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
• If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.

He is referring to interwikis, in other words Wiktionarys in other languages. More specifically, the request was not to link templates to equivalent templates on other language wikis. For example, this edit does that, but was soon reverted. Regards, Bendono 03:21, 17 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Wihwang, I saw you are an active user with Chinese heritage and I would like to draw your attention to the Wiktionary:Beer_parlour#Recurring_problem_with_Chinese_vs._Mandarin discussion, where several editors converse about the appropriateness of the Chinese instead of Mandarin terminology. Hi Wihwang,

Thanks for {{Han simp}} – it’s v. useful!

I’ve made a change to it so that one can include two components being simplified – hope you like it!

(The situation when the “from” component doesn’t exist (or can’t be found) separately is currently sub-optimal though – consider 漢 → 汉)

It would be nice to be able to indicate in the template whether a simplification is used only in Simplified Chinese, only in Japanese shinjitai, or in both – like a parameter that takes values u=sc, sh, b.

Getting really ambitious, we could (somewhat) automate the categorization used in Category:CJKV characters simplified differently in Japan and China.

Any thoughts?

Hi Nils,

I like your change and improvement for {{Han simp}}, and the expansion of documentation, which makes it clearer. I've always wanted to add new features like two components and automatic categorization, but I'm not quite familiar with the wiki template syntax. Thanks for the improvement for it and {{Han compound}}, and I support the ideas of adding a parameter u= and automatic categorization. It'll be great if you could implement it.

Regarding 漢 → 汉, I've no good idea, since the right half part of 漢 is not a standalone character. How about using the words "Simplified from 漢 (right half part → 又)" or any alternative words?

Thanks for the kind words!

Agreed, the MediaWiki template language is pretty hairy and hard to debug, and I’m very much still learning it myself. You’ll notice a number of edits in the Han simp/sandbox while I hashed out a spacing bug.

I’m a bit busy right now, but should get to this soon enough:

• I’ll add the u= parameter and categorization (details are a bit tricky),
• and for alternative words, I’ll add falt, talt, f2alt, t2alt parameters, defaulting to cannot be displayed or such.
