In Southwestern Tai, cognate with Northern Thai ᨶᩧ᩠᩵ᨦ, Lao ໜຶ່ງ (nưng) or ນຶ່ງ (nưng), Lü ᦓᦹᧂᧈ (nueng¹), Shan ၼိုင်ႈ (nūeng), Aiton လိုင် (lüṅ), Ahom 𑜎𑜢𑜤𑜂𑜫 (lüṅ).

In other Tai, cognate with Zuojiang Zhuang nwengq (Ningming dialect) or nwengh (Longzhou and Daxin dialects) or nwngh (Longzhou and Daxin dialect) or nwng (Longzhou dialect).

• Unlike the other numbers, this number is often found omitted or placed after the noun, but this is considered colloquial now. For example:

• When forming part of a compound number, this number is generally pronounced เอ็ด (èt), not หนึ่ง (nʉ̀ng). For example, ๒๑ ("21") is pronounced ยี่สิบเอ็ด (yîi-sìp-èt), not ยี่สิบหนึ่ง (yîi-sìp-nʉ̀ng). Pronouncing หนึ่ง (nʉ̀ng) is often found in military usage to distinguish เอ็ด (èt) from เจ็ด (jèt, “seven”).
