Proto-Slavic verb derived from Proto-Slavic *brězgъ (compare Czech břesk (tart taste), Polish brzazg (tart taste), dialectal Ukrainian бреск (bresk, dampness, mold)), probably cognate with Norwegian brisk (bitter taste), brisken (bitter, tart).
