Etymology

(This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium. Particularly: “Other Sino-Tibetan cognates?”)

Attested earliest in Shuowen Jiezi. Sagart (2023c) reconstructs (OC prik) and proposes that it possibly arose from 二百 (OC *ni-s pˤrak → *ni-s prik) then (OC prik), with (OC ni-s)'s vowel /i/ and feature speading to (OC *pˤrak).
