1. (transitive) to throw away (a thing), to abandon (a person)

   쓰레기를 버리다

     "여러 대언들이 연(堧)에게 말하기를, 중국의 음(音)을 버리고 스스로 율관을 만드는 것이 옳겠는가고 하며, 모두 거짓말이라 여기니"

     yeoreo daeeon-deur-i yeonege malhagireul, junggug-ui eum-eul beorigo seuseuro yulgwan-eul mandeuneun geos-i olkenneun'gago hamyeo, modu geojinmarira yeogini"

     "Several Daeeons said to Yeon, "Would it be proper to abandon China's sounds and create a yulgwan (律管) by yourself?" and everyone thought it was a lie."

2. (auxiliary) marks completion of the main verb, often with the implication that the result is negative

   미안해요. 벌써 먹어버렸어요.
