  • Objective is to make it easier for editors to create visually correct and appealing inflection templates that work in light and dark mode.

Mockups - narrow layout

The narrow layout is intended for situations where the table has few columns, e.g. Indo-European noun declensions.

It automatically resizes to fit the content. It does not have a mandatory fixed width, nor does it fill the entire width of the page (unless its content is as wide as your screen - e.g. on mobile).

It can be set to collapsible if it has more than about 8 rows, or if many such templates are likely to appear consecutively. It certainly should not be set to collapsible if there are only a few rows ({{br-verb-mutation}} is an egregious case).

information I'm aware these tables are too wide when viewed on mobile. This is an artifact of the way this demo has been constructed, not an intentional change. Best to look at this on a computer for now.

Mockups - wide layout

This layout is for inflection tables with many columns, but also many rows, such that it is not possible to "transpose" the table to be taller than it is wide. (Taller tables are always preferable, as they are generally easier to navigate on mobile.)

This layout always fills the width of the page. It uses a slightly smaller (95%) font size. It is always collapsible.

The existing Romance verb conjugation tables are very similar to what I imagine this style to look like, although with additional padding to avoid ugly hard-cropped
text that touches the edges of its cell.
