Support A legitimately useful term to add to my vocabulary. @justin(r)leung Do you know if this is the standard way to format an entry for an initialism of a sum-of-parts phrase (full phrase in etymology only)? I've wondered what to do at BFI in particular, since {{initialism of}}
won't link each word separately. — excarnateSojourner (talk · contrib) 19:12, 21 February 2023 (UTC)
- @ExcarnateSojourner: Thanks for your support. There are two ways to format initialisms/acronyms. The more usual way is to use the
{{initialism of}}
inline template (which I've converted BFI into). The other way would be to do it as an etymology, as done in GOOS. — justin(r)leung { (t...) | c=› } 19:53, 21 February 2023 (UTC)
- You need to read the guidelines: "Avoid abbreviations — Abbreviations, initialisms, acronyms, symbols, and the like are unlikely to be selected without extremely convincing reasons. In other words, don’t nominate WYSIWYG, dpi, or ☿. Symbols in particular cause problems for readers who lack the required fonts, and are therefore unlikely to be featured." DonnanZ (talk) 22:17, 21 February 2023 (UTC)
- Oops, I forgot about that point. I'll leave it for others to decide whether it has "extremely convincing reasons". — justin(r)leung { (t...) | c=› } 05:55, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Justinrleung: so what is your reason for the nomination? — Sgconlaw (talk) 10:50, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Sgconlaw: I think it's a very useful term that is quite underappreciated. It is also not in any other (major) dictionary as far as I know. It might also make a good WOTD for an environment-themed day, like Earth Day (April 22), since it's usually used in the context of being more green. — justin(r)leung { (t...) | c=› } 13:08, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
