Etymology

Uncertain; possibly from Ancient Ligurian or another Celtic language since Pliny ascribes the term to the Taurini, a Celto-Ligurian tribe. An emendation to *sasia has been suggested, from Proto-Celtic *sasyos (rye).[1]
