Finnish

Etymology

From Proto-Finnic *huima. Related to Estonian uim, Ingrian huima, Karelian huima and Votic huimõ. The Finnic word is probably originally a borrowing from either Old Norse svíma (to faint, to swoon) or Old Norse hvima (to be confused);[1] for sense, compare huimata. Alternatively, possibly akin to huikea (compare tuikea ~ tuima, julkea ~ julma), but in any case influenced by it in terms of meaning.
