Welcome
Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.
If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:
- Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
- Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
- Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
- If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.

Hi,
Thanks for Persian contributions. Could you please try keeping the transliterations more standards as in the preferred way (Wiktionary column) per WT:FA TR? E.g. "x", not "kh", "i", not "ī", etc.? --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 03:57, 21 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
- Hello Anatoli T.,
- sure, I will do that. I am still learning an new to Wiktionary. I will stick to the Wiktionary conventions for transliterations. My only question is the long vowels. :I used bar to denote that, like in "ī", should I avoid these too? Or is there an alternative way?
- Thanks
- Mazsch (talk) 10:02, 21 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
- Since this is based on modern Iranian, only the long ɒː is transliterated as "â", otherwise iː and uː are just "i" and "u", we don't use "ī" and "ū", e.g. آمریکا (âmrikâ). Remember that the short vowels in modern Iranian are "e" and "o" (which mostly replaced "i" and "u" in Classical or Dari), plus diphthongs. Occasionally, long ê and ô are also used. (BTW, I am no expert in Persian.) --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 10:16, 21 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Anatoli, I will defintiely stick to the Wiktionary regulations from now onward and try to correct the previous ones.

What do you think of the Bostani writing system for Persian? --Apisite (talk) 06:55, 3 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
- Cool, never heard of it or seen it before! Thanks for mentioning! Who made this?! @Apisite Mazsch (talk) 07:21, 3 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
- I'm not sure how widespread Bostani should be to be included at Wiktionary, but in any case, would you like to start a Bostani writing club?
- Anyway, here's one hidden category to follow: Requests for pronunciation in Persian entries. --Apisite (talk) 08:07, 3 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
- I'm actually quite busy these days but thanks for letting me know, I might do in the future! I need to read more about it though! Mazsch (talk) 21:07, 3 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
@ZxxZxxZ How about you? --Apisite (talk) 11:11, 3 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Raxshaan How about you too? --Apisite (talk) 20:20, 10 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
- Hello, wow a modern Persian script based on older iranian writing systems sounds very interesting! I don’t really have the time for it currently with finals coming up and I don’t think i will be able to contribute in any way. But thank you for telling me! I’ll definitely read more about it later. Raxshaan (talk) 16:20, 14 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
- @Raxshaan, ZxxZxxZ There's also the Ethiofarsi writing system as well. --Apisite (talk) 01:56, 21 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
