From Proto-Indo-Iranian *amŕ̥tas (immortal), from Proto-Indo-European *n̥mr̥tós (immortal). Cognate with Avestan 𐬀𐬨𐬆𐬱𐬀 (aməša, immortal), Ancient Greek ἄμβροτος (ámbrotos, immortal). Equivalent to अ- (a-) +‎ मृत (mṛta).
