Intro

This is to announce this year's Easter competition, which is open to all contributors. It will both start and conclude after Catholic/Protestant Easter and before Orthodox Easter (and is named Easter Competition only to keep it in line with previous years' competitions).

The object is to construct an ordered list of words meeting the following criteria; whoever supplies the longest list wins.

  1. All words on the list must be in the same language.
  2. All words must have entries (stubs are okay), and must be wikified on the list for verification purposes.
  3. No word can appear on the list twice, except that the first word on the list and the last may be the same (but need not be).
  4. Each word on the list (except the last) must have some sense in which it is a synonym of some sense of the following word on the list. Synonymy between parts of speech or genders or the like is acceptable; hence, "he" and "she", "relax" and "relaxation", and "going" and "went" are synonyms.
  5. No two consecutive words can be inflections or variant forms of the same lexeme.
  6. No three consecutive words can be synonyms. Again, synonymy is interpreted loosely.

The contest will begin with the onset of April 1 UTC, allowing for amendment of the rules until that time. It will end at the end of April 15 Hawaii daylight-savings time (UTC−9), when tax returns are due. The winner will receive fame and glory, or something.

Discussion

That first entry up there doesn't meet rule 6, since the last four words are all synonyms. Right? --EncycloPetey 21:18, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I agree with EP.—msh210 16:08, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

On TDR's entry, arc (curve) is not ark (vessel). Robert Ullmann 16:20, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, it is how I (and a lot of other people (including Thomas Jefferson) incorrectly spell ark as in "sacred vessel", but I linked the two differently so as to make it moot. - DaveRoss 20:26, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Hm, in Dmcdevit's entry, aren't whip-defeat-best all synonyms? Still, even dropping defeat, he's still the winner. (And don't complain he was late, as the other entries were early!) Congratulations! In the spirit of Wikipedia, I hereby bestow upon Dmcdevit this star:
